1140 Vaccine or poison?

The other day on the news from Canada, a woman in the “No-Vax-Mandates” demo was interviewed saying, “I don’t want to put that poison into my body”. Hmmm, to me that sounds ill informed, ignorant, even a little bit a lot stupid.

I wrote an extended story elaborating on this issue: Mandating Mandates.

Furthermore, an article in The Conversation hi-lights the issue of Positive and Negative Liberty: "The extent to which personal freedoms are limited as part of living in a functioning society is a moral concern about the role of government. This requires a clear understanding of the nature of freedom in the first place, and what it means to be a free person in a free society."

last century's small pox boys

This is where I'm coming from: I am a diabetic. I have been putting “poison” into my body twice a day since 1997 … for 25 years. Hadn’t I done that I would have died last century. Talk about the issue to a cancer sufferer ... etc.

(The truth of course is that  everybody  puts poison into their body now and then; if they're lucky and they have access to it / can afford it.)

An interesting article in The Guardian‘The only logical choice’: anti-vaxxers who changed their minds on Covid vaccines.' “I want to be able to help stop people from going down that road, having been down it myself,” a woman said. She had hit a personal crisis, and started rethinking all her beliefs - including on vaccinations. It was like pulling on a thread and watching an entire sweater unravel, she said. For example, (people) tell her they are still waiting for more information to come out on the Covid vaccines before deciding whether to vaccinate ... “What’s missing is that, in the US right now, millions … have been vaccinated and are followed closely with V-Safe and other databases to show the safety of the vaccine.” The decision isn’t between getting vaccinated and doing nothing, she said. It’s between getting vaccinated and getting Covid. “The question is, do you want to be vaccinated before you go through it?”

This is the thing: Over the past 100 years people’s life expectancy has doubled. That is largely for three reasons: better nutrition, hygiene and successful medical interventions … above all vaccinations. Vaccines have been called the most successful medical intervention in human history.

I list on my  CoViD blogs  about a dozen and a half vaccines that have been invented since the second world war, and that have eradicated many diseases ... the most insidious - small pox - just one of them.

Now, are medicines, including vaccines, poison? Of course they are ... the best and easiest way to commit suicide is to take a handful of just about any meds, and you are ensured success.

But do medicines, including vaccines, saves lives ... well, yes. In fact in just the past two decades, just this century, more than a hundred million lives were saved by vaccinations. Furthermore, vaccines are recognised to be extremely safe ... including the various CoViD vaccines. Of course some people will experience side effects, but they're minute against the good the vaccines do.
